ARTISTIC SHOT WINS THE PORT OF BLYTH ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

09/12/2025

The Port of Blyth has announced the winners of its Annual Community Photography Competition, which attracted over 500 fantastic entries capturing the unique character of Blyth’s coastline, the busy Port terminals, and the River Blyth throughout the seasons.

Twelve brilliant photographs have been selected to feature in the Port of Blyth’s 2026 Community Calendar, with Richard Turnbull’s photograph, ‘Bates Clean Energy Terminal’, chosen as the overall winner.

The winning image beautifully captures the Port’s Bates Clean Energy Terminal at night, where the dockside lighting casts a warm glow across the calm waters of the River Blyth, illuminating the cranes and the towering wind turbine. Its serene composition and dramatic contrast of light and shadow impressed the judges, showcasing both the industrial strength and environmental focus of the Port.

As the overall winner, Richard will receive £100 worth of vouchers, a bottle of champagne, and have his image featured on the front cover of the 2026 Community Calendar.

Finalists will also feature in the calendar and each receive a bottle of champagne.

Martin Lawlor OBE, Chief Executive of the Port of Blyth, said: “We’re delighted to see such strong engagement from our community in our photography competition once again this year. The quality and creativity of the entries have been outstanding, reflecting the community’s pride in Blyth and its connection to the Port. Huge congratulations to Richard on his remarkable winning image – it is a well-deserved recognition.”
