PORT OF BLYTH NAMED BEST PLACE TO WORK FOR NORTHUMBERLAND & TYNESIDE

24/07/2025

The Port of Blyth has been named Joint Winner of the Best Place to Work Award for the Northumberland & Tyneside region at the prestigious North East Business Awards 2025.

This award recognises organisations that go above and beyond to support their workforce and create a positive, inclusive and supportive working environment. The Port’s win reflects its ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, safety, and development — all underpinned by its strong Mission, Vision and Values.

In recent years, the Port has introduced a number of initiatives to improve employee wellbeing, including signing up to the Better Health at Work Award(BHAWA), establishing a network of trained Health Advocates, delivering regular wellbeing campaigns and events, and launching reward schemes such as Harbour Heroes and an Employee Suggestion Scheme. These efforts contributed to the Port achieving BHAWA Bronze status in 2024.

Recognising that its people are its greatest asset, the Port also invests heavily in training and progression, with many employees starting as apprentices and progressing into leadership roles.

Martin Lawlor OBE, Chief Executive at the Port of Blyth, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised as one of the best places to work in our region. This award is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our entire team, and the positive culture we’ve built together. We’re passionate about creating an environment where our people feel supported, valued and empowered to succeed.”

As a result of this win, the Port of Blyth will now go head-to-head with other regional winners at the North East Business Awards Grand Final on 25th September 2025, where the overall Best Place to Work in the North East will be announced.
