Port Labour Partnership Secured For Expansion

01/08/2008

The Port of Blyth has concluded a five year agreement for the supply of contract labour to support expanding trade. The deal with S2S (UK) Ltd (part of the NEWgroup recruitment and contract labour organisation) will see priority supply of additional labour to support the Port’s core workforce on stevedoring and warehousing duties.

The Port’s newly established training division, Port Training Services, will also work closely with S2S to ensure the highest possible calibre of trained personnel is available to service a varied and expanding trade base.

Martin Lawlor, Chief Executive of the Port of Blyth stated “We are pleased to have concluded this agreement which will see the Port working more closely than ever before with a contract labour supplier, no doubt providing an enhanced quality of service to all our customers. We are moving increasingly into more complex value added work and it is therefore essential that training and the supply of reliable skilled labour remains a key focus.”

NEWgroup Managing Director, Gary Watson, was equally delighted, adding “this is just reward for the hard work put in to establishing S2S as a major supplier of port labour across the region and we look forward to working with the Port of Blyth over what should be an exciting period of growth. This contract will deliver jobs growth and increased skills for the team. That the Port of Blyth awarded this contract to a local, independent company like NEWgroup is testimony to their commitment to the SME business community in this area”.
