Apprentice Fitter

Port of Blyth is recruiting for an Apprentice Fitter to join our Maintenance Department.

The Role

To learn and assist with the maintenance of fixed and mobile mechanical equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities (in which you will be trained)

  • Work to high safety standards and procedures at all times.
  • Learn how to carry out maintenance and servicing of plant & equipment across all areas of the business. This will include both mechanical & electrical work where appropriately trained.
  • Carrying out planned and reactive work to plant, vehicles, equipment and infrastructure.
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults.
  • Assist with other areas of the operation including the loading & unloading of vessels.
  • Attend college and training courses in accordance with the departments requirements.

The above list is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Skills Requirements

Essential:

  • Willing and able to work flexible shift patterns (during busy periods)
  • 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (including English) with at least a Grade 6 in Maths.
  • Excellent IT skills with a good knowledge of Microsoft systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good time management skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work situations
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload

Desirable:

  • GCSE at Level 4 or above in ICT and/or a science subject
  • Full clean driving licence

Remuneration

  • National Minimum Wage for an apprentice + 7%
  • 37.5 hours per week, £6.84 per hour
  • 25 days holiday + statutory holidays
