We are looking for an experienced marine pilot to join us as Deputy Harbour Master, a key role responsible for assisting and deputising for the Harbour Master in the management of all marine operations within the Port of Blyth.
The Role:
- Marine Operations Compliance: Ensuring all Marine Services operations align with safety management standards, government guidelines, and Port of Blyth policies.
- Pilotage: Acting as an authorised ship’s pilot as required, supporting the Harbour Master in overseeing the pilotage service, including pilot training and certification, and issuing Pilot Exemption Certificates.
- Safety and Emergency Compliance: Helping to maintain high safety standards, preparing statistical reports, and overseeing incident investigations.
- Dredging Operations: Managing dredging activities and assisting with regular bathymetric surveys.
- Staff Supervision: Supervising marine department personnel, including pilots, marine assistants, and port vessel crew.
- Port Security: Serving as Deputy Port Facility Security Officer, managing daily security, emergency response, and readiness for major incidents.
Qualifications & Skills Requirements:
- STCW Certificate of Competency (essential)
- Experience in vessel command, marine pilotage, or ship handling is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of marine safety protocols, compliance regulations, and emergency response planning.
- Proven leadership ability with experience supervising marine operations personnel.
