Port of Blyth has welcomed the UK Government’s decision to select both the Dogger Bank and Seagreen offshore wind projects in its third Contracts for Difference (CfD) allocation round.
With a total of six offshore wind projects offering a combined capacity of 5,466MW being selected in CfD Round 3, Port of Blyth is now poised to provide major project support including mobilisation, storage and O&M to the supply chain from its mid-east coast location.
Andy Williamson, Business Development Manager at the Port, said: “This announcement is great news for the Port of Blyth. As a leading UK offshore energy support base with a wealth of complex project support experience, a mature supply chain of tenant businesses on site and a range of quayside land development opportunities available, we’re ideally positioned to support new and existing clients to successfully win and complete new projects for all sites selected in this round.”
A current £30m investment programme with partner Advance Northumberland will take the number of deep water berths on the estuary to ten and will open up a further 100ha of quayside land suitable for primary manufacturing and mobilisation support.
Located just 100nm from Dogger Bank, Port of Blyth is used as a strategic base by some of the world largest offshore and renewable energy firms including EDF and MVOW and has supported developers, installers and WTG OEMs on numerous offshore wind projects to date.
