PORT OF BLYTH PLAYS KEY ROLE IN INCH CAPE OFFSHORE CONSTRUCTION

16/04/2026

The Port of Blyth is playing a pivotal role in the construction of the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, further strengthening its position as one of the UK’s leading offshore energy hubs while delivering significant economic and supply chain benefits across the North East of England.

As Inch Cape’s construction progresses, the Port of Blyth is serving as the mobilisation base for both of the project’s export cables. The Port has welcomed cable installation vessel CMOS Installer and cable jointing vessel North Sea Giant, supporting lead contractor Enshore Subsea in the efficient delivery of this critical phase of works. The project is also driving strong engagement with local suppliers, highlighting the strength and capability of the regional offshore energy supply chain.

Port of Blyth Chief Executive, Martin Lawlor OBE, said: “With more than 25 years’ experience supporting the offshore wind sector, the Inch Cape project further reinforces the Port of Blyth’s reputation as a primary UK offshore energy hub with specialist expertise in cable handling and mobilisation. Projects like this also demonstrate the strength of the supply chain at the Port, with businesses working together to deliver a seamless service for our customers.”

The Port’s involvement in the Inch Cape project aligns with its wider strategic development plans, including continued investment in infrastructure and facilities designed to enhance capacity, improve operational efficiency and support the growing demands of the UK offshore renewables sector.

Through sustained investment in infrastructure, skills and partnerships, the Port of Blyth remains committed to supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions and enabling the continued growth of clean energy supply chains, building on more than two decades of leadership in the offshore wind sector.
